Friday Flaschcard: Name that Metal Band

Everybody's favorite black metal band! (See the comments section in case you don't know who your favorite black metal band should be)

  1. Abruptum. What could be more black, more bleak, more brutal than a band who makes field recordings of themselves being tortured and crying out in agony? Or how about this, the original pressing of their record Evil Genius came with a razorblade and a note telling the listener to kill themselves. Now that really is Evil Genius.

  2. Abruptum sounds like medication that seniors need to go to the bathroom.

    Check it out: ABRUPTUM

  3. Can you imagine if that was their logo? Amazing! Do black metal bands have senses of humor? Somehow I feel like that may not be allowed.

  4. i don't get it. if everyone who bought their record offed themselves, who would be left to buy their follow-up? these guys obviously know nothing about how to maintain a fanbase.

  6. Yeah, an indecipherable logo and a suicidal fan base is NOT the stuff of marketing genius.

However, if the band owned a funeral parlor, this could be a ploy to drive more business through the door. I imagine Presidents Day sales don't work too well in that profession.

  7. Yes! The first one I could read, and I barely tried. Surely it must be due to your hint. How about the bonus midget quotient of this tuneless duo? Inciting your early fans to commit suicide is the perfect preemptive strike against all those weasels who are only going to jump ship and flip the records on ebay anyway.

This whole series reminds me of working retail during the height of black metal, in a store frequented by the members of Blasphemy, and other unsavory types, including a friendly regular/dealer/father who was taken out in a gangland hit. My theory was if you could read the band name they were clearly sell outs.
